The world's artisans, often working in remote villages, know how to make products that we Americans (accustomed as we are to mass-produced wares) would consider exquisite centerpieces. But few Americans ever lay eyes on these goods, simply because there is no way to get them from there to here. The artisans have no access to the US market because of their remote location, their poverty, and above all the disadvantage of being small-lot producers in an age of mass distribution. The real tragedy is that if we bought their goods, the artisans would earn enough to feed, educate, and provide health care for their children - without depending on charity, and without abandoning their native crafts and culture. Worldstock locates magnificent products made by craftsmen and - mostly - craftswomen around the world. We pride ourselves on being honest brokers. We don't gouge producers or slap on enormous markups. On average, the artisans get back 60% to 70% of the money you spend on their wares. Just as important, we emphasize sustainability. We choose only crafts that are environmentally sound, that don't burn up the natural or human resources of their producers. Our goal in this department is not to make money, but to create tens of thousands (and someday millions) of jobs in the poorest regions of the world, while bringing our customers unique products of which they can be proud - hand-crafted clothing, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, and much else.
